frets

frets
Frets are instrumental in the playability of a guitar. They affect note accuracy, sustain and intonation.
It is of the upmost importance to keep them in good order and free of oxidation. Oxidation causes the frets to tarnish as the exposed metal reacts with the air and moisture through playing. You may notice a slight greening as the fets disclour. this process softens the fret wire, accelerating fret wear and tear.
When your instrument is professionally serviced the frets will be treated by removing any deterioration and highly polished to encourage fret longevity. This can usually be achieved during the set up process, or with a fret dress. When frets get to the point when they are too worn, or too low for dressing, then they must be replaced.
